Day FOUR - Day at El Chino village
DAY FOUR
Today we started our fourth day in the Peruvian jungle with fists pounding on our door at 6:45 for our 7:00 before our action packed day. Right after breakfast we got ready for the day. Starting at 8:00 we left the docks with buckets of peach and red paint and tons of paint brushes. It was a short 10 minutes to El Chino Village where the highschool we were painting was located. As we arrived to the cute village we were greeted by chicks, ducks, and dogs. We walked across the newly built red bridge to the three-room highschool on stilts. We arrived at the school to many smiling kids waving and saying hello.
We got paired up with the students of El Chino and got to work on painting. The students were between the ages of 11-16 normally looking a little smaller than their actual age. They spoke very little english so we had to speak to them in the spanish that we knew which was very hard for some of us to do. We ended up making tons of new friends and having the best day yet. Painting the walls of the school was a great experience for all of us along with learning the culture of a new country.
In the afternoon we went back to the school to finish the job. We painted the bridge that the kids use to walk to school while bonding with them a little more. We didn’t quite finish the bridge, but after we headed to the field to play some games. The Hall boys played a seven on seven soccer game vs El Chino kids and got crushed 5-2 while some of the girls won 2-1. Six other girls also played an exciting game of volleyball again losing pretty badly. We finished off the visit with a swim in the river with mand said our good byes. Another great meal and our nightly meetings concluded another great day in the Amazon.
Thank you for another great update! I’m beaming with pride thinking of the wotk you all did to brighten their school, the bonds you created & friends you made working and playing together (in spite of the language difficulties). What an unforgettable, beautiful day!
