Day THREE - Hike in Frog Valley

What a great day we had today!
Here’s what Molly, Olivi, Ava and Elena have to say ....

DAY THREE
Today was day three (our first full day) in the Peruvian Jungle! We started it with a lovely breakfast provided by the wonderful staff of the Tahuayo lodge! Immediatley after, we traveled by boat to our hiking and lunch destination. The ride was two hours long, as we stopped to see: pink river dolphins, Titi mokeys, a three toed sloth, many exotic buttreflies, swimming snakes, gorgeous birds, Kevin and his evil twin Eduardo, and much more! At our final destination, we stopped for some snacking and nature squatting before our 2.5 hour hike. On this jungle adventure, we saw: several species of poison dart frogs, tropical beetles, termites, and leaf cutter ants. We also made rubber out of the sap of a rubber tree. Then, using flashlights, we daringly waddled through a hollowed out log where hundreds and hundreds of bats lived! When returning, we ate a delicous lunch filled with rice, beans, chicken, vegies, and pineapple! Mr. Evans kindly educated us on the ways of snot-rocketing while Señora Gascon taught us how to use a Spanish fan (abanico)! When we finished our lunch, it was time to reboard our boats and head back to the lodge. On the way back we dipped our feet in the water to cool ourselves down and spotted many creatures such as, two anacondas, fed bananas and oranges to a monkey named Coby (he loved the attention), and enjoyed eachother’s company. When we got back, we dropped evrerything and jumped in the river. We swam, made a mud slide, balanced on railings and went canoeing. Unfortunately, soon after two canoes found themselves upside down and stranded. After a daring rescue mission we all retired to the showers and wandered around until dinner. During dinner, many of us tried heart of palms and yucca root fries, yum!  The day was amazing and we are see excited to see the school in El Chino tomorrow, thank you so much to Tahuayo Lodge for providing this incredible experience!

  5. Excuse me, I’ll just be a second while I retrieve my jaw off the floor. I wasn’t sure you’d see some of those exotic creatures at all much less on your first full day exploring!
