Day SEVEN - More fishing and canoeing on the mangrove
DAY SEVEN
After A LOT of waiting I was able to upload this awesome picture of our fearless soccer players who dared to play against the Peruvian team from the research center!
To begin day seven off a group of about half of us went canoeing through the mangroves in search of caimans and snakes and other living creatures. It was 3 people to a canoe and there was 1 guide on each canoe. Sadly we didn’t see any creatures on the canoes but on the boat ride there we saw saki monkeys. The boat ride back was the cool part. One of the guides spotted a 3 toed sloth up in a tree and we moved the boat closer in to get a better view. Out of nowhere Lyla R spots a baby sloth curled up under a tree. The camera crew moves in to get good pictures and then we left.
The other group went fishing like yesterday but we woke up early at 6:45 and then ate breakfast and got to the fishing grounds around 8:00 because we didn’t leave until around 7:30 and on the way there we saw a group of squirrel monkeys in the trees. We caught 5 fish in total and Kyle caught 2 piranhas as did Mrs. Gascon and then Willister one of our guides caught one also. Before we started fishing on the way there we made bets on who would get the first fish and that was Mrs. Gascon and she got a soda and then we did the biggest fish which Kyle won and he got $1 from everyone and that equaled $10 total. It was very different fishing with only a long stick and a line and hook instead of using a reel. The piranhas were very clever at stealing the bait and then swimming away very quickly.
In the afternoon after at 3:00 we left to go swimming in a lake near the research center. Once we got there everyone started jumping into the water and we brought a tennis ball and 2 frisbees and we were playing catch between the 2 boats and kids were jumping off the boat trying to catch them while jumping in. Everyone had a good time swimming in this huge wide open space instead of the narrow river. Then we came back to the research center and again played soccer against the guides versus the boys and then the girls. It was very fun to play soccer with friends and our guides.

ReplyDeleteYes, great pic! Nice creature spotting.. Babyspotting must be rare! Piranhas, vampire fish?! Oh, my! Loved fishing bets details, swim n’ catch & soccer matches!
ReplyDeleteWow! Kyle definitely got his piranha Amazon River fishing skills from his grandmother. She was the first in her group to catch one with a stick and string also. Nice job sounds like an amazing day of activities.
